EM Micro ADC suits portable sensor, DA instruments

EM Microelectronic has released the EM6415 high-resolution ADC that is designed for use as a programmable link between one to four resistive sensors and a microcontroller. Eliminating the need for external calibration components, error curve compensation or offset and gain adjustments, the converter suits portable sensor instruments, remote data-acquisition instruments, resistive sensor interfaces, automotive sensors, industrial process control, pressure and temperature monitoring devices and smart sensors and transmitters.

After the EM6415 is exposed to a calibration signal/profile, all conversion parameter and profile coefficients are self-calculated and stored in external EEPROM. In a classic sensor system, the device (as a signal conditioner) can replace analog sensor compensation circuitry. In a modern sensor system, it can replace the external amplifier stage, gain and scale adjust resistors and 16- to 18-bit ADC.

Offering high sensor adjust with 14 effective bits, the EM6415 features a four-sensor channel multiplexer, programmable dual slope converter, programmable resolution, and a self-calibration of conversion parameters and profile coefficients.

Available in a SSOP36 package, the product consumes 240?A at 3V and 800kHz, has a 2.2V to 3.6V supply voltage, and is priced at $3.40 each for small volume.
