Designed for use as embedded data storage memory in consumer products such as mobile phones and digital still cameras, the 256Mb HN29V256A series of superAND flash memory from Renesas Technology Corp. offers improved ease of use through on-chip memory management functions.

The company currently has 128Mb superAND flash memory in mass production, and is now releasing second-phase models offering larger capacity and a write speed of approximately 4MBps, three times faster than that of the current version.

Sample shipments of the HN29V256A0B, supporting a 16-bit bus width, and the HN29V256A1B, supporting an 8-bit bus width, will begin in December 2003 in Japan. A 1.8V version is also under development to meet the demand for lower-voltage operation.
