Royal Philips Electronics has announced the newest addition to its Nexperia family - the PNX4000 Mobile Image Processor that enables multimedia message service (MMS) on a wide range of mobile phones.

With low power consumption, small footprint and low cost, the device exchanges video data directly with the host processor via parallel, programmable interfaces. It processes the digitized data from sensors up to 1.3Mpixels and converts it to a JPEG-compressed snapshot.

The PNX4000 is also capable of enabling a preview to be shown on the mobile device display through the LCD driver. A graphics overlay function also allows super-imposing of text and icons to snapshots and preview with up to four levels of transparency.
