Leadtek Research Inc., a subsidiary of 8x8 Inc., has acquired Netergy Microelectronics Inc.'s VIP1 video semiconductor development effort. Under the terms of the acquisition agreement, Leadtek acquired the VIP1 development activities, key engineers, software tools, and equipment.

The VIP1 is an H.264 enabled voice and video-over-packet (VVoP) processor targeted for IP video communication applications. The VIP1 provides superior voice and video processing performance and versatile interfaces in a highly integrated, low cost semiconductor solution, while providing the flexibility desired for customer product differentiation.

"Leadtek and Netergy have been working together for many years on video communications," said K. S. Lu, Leadtek's CEO. "Acquiring the VIP1 project is a natural evolution of our efforts to provide our customers with the best video communication appliances possible," he added.
