Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd and U.S.-based Silicon Storage Technology Inc. (SST), a provider of flash memory technology, both announced plans for continued expansion of their businesses into China's high-technology sector. This announcement is in part of the companies' celebration of 10 years of collaboration in flash memory technology.

Further, SST's non-self-aligned SuperFlash has reportedly been installed and ready for mass production at Shanghai Hua Hong NEC Electronic Co. Ltd (HHNEC), while the self-aligned SuperFlash technology is installed and ready for mass production at Grace Semiconductor Mfg Corp. Both SST and Sanyo plan to continue manufacturing high-volume flash-based products on the Grace and HHNEC fabrication lines.

The business relationship between SST and Sanyo has included second-sourcing, technology licensing, joint product development and wafer foundry agreements. Over the course of their relationship, hundreds of millions of SST's SuperFlash products have been manufactured by Sanyo's foundry.
