Osram Opto Semiconductors has launched its SFH2430 ambient light sensor that is even closer to the spectral sensitivity of the human eye than any of its transistor-based predecessors and offers greater thermal stability.

Developed for the automotive sector, the sensor provides a realistic approximation of ambient lighting conditions with little variation due to temperature. Within the automotive sector, one immediate application is headlight control. This technology may also ensure more effective dashboard backlighting, so instruments can be seen as clearly as possible in even the most challenging lighting conditions.

The SFH2430 features a sensitive area of 3-by-3mm, and utilizes standard industry protocols. It also provides high SNR, reduced photo-current temperature dependence, and the ability to detect impending darkness with amazing reliability.
