Murata thermistor with multi-layered structure

Murata Electronics has developed a ceramic PTC thermistor with a multi-layered structure. The PRG21 series measures 2-by-1.25-by-0.9mm, which allows for resistance at 0.2 ohms with a non-operating current of 0.5A at an ambient temperature of 60°C.

Designed for use in USB equipment, power supply circuits and PC-related electronics, the product does not contain lead and can be mounted with lead-free solder, which makes reflow soldering at 260°C applicable. It provides low resistance under normal conditions to prevent signal attenuation and power consumption, and a self-reset function that allows the resistance to be restored to the original low level after the cause of over-current is removed.

The chip is available with a price range of 45 cents to 50 cents each.
