Taiwan maker Yageo Corp. will invest between $40 million to $59 million for the construction of its second offshore plant in Suzhou, China next year. The 90,000 square-meter factory is expected to be completed before the end of 2004.

President Remko Rosman said the second plant is three times larger compared to the first plant in Suzhou. "About 10 production lines will be installed in this new plant. Chip resistors, MLCCs, antennas, inductors, magnetic products and aluminum electrolytic capacitors will be produced here [China]. The proposed monthly capacity for MLCCs is eight billion units," he explained.

Meanwhile Yageo's first Suzhou plant recently added new equipment for antennas used in mobile phones to increase monthly capacity to 800,000 units. In addition, the company plans to expand monthly capacity of chip resistors to 1.40 billion units early next year.
