Intel Corp. signed an unusual joint marketing deal with MCI, formally still incorporated as WorldCom. MCI will provide business services such as business voice processing, Layer 2 data services (frame relay and ATM), and Internet access solutions, which will be sold through 40,000 members of the Intel product dealer channel.

Intel has worked with a variety of partners in dealer and reseller channels, though pacts with interexchange carriers are unusual among most OEMs and components suppliers.

The two companies will bundle services, software, and hardware together for specific application-level solutions, such as wireless hotspots and Virtual Private Networks. The dealers in Intel's product dealer channel program work with additional network equipment vendors, and offer consulting services, thereby extending the breadth of the Intel/MCI solution.
