NEC Electronics America Inc. and NEC LCD Technologies Ltd have announced that samples for color and monochrome models of the company's 21.3-inch QXGA TFT-LCD modules began shipping in October. Additionally, shipments of the company's new monochrome 21.3-inch UXGA TFT LCD module will begin this month.

The new displays feature NEC's SFT technology. SFT is NEC's proprietary technology based on in-plane switching (IPS) ultra-wide viewing angle technology. As a result, all three of the new displays have faster response times over previous displays, improved panel transmission, minimized color shift and wide viewing angles of up to 170.

Samples of both the QXGA displays and the UXGA display are available now. Samples of the QXGA color display, model number NL204153BC21-02, are priced at $2,750 per unit. Samples of the QXGA monochrome display, model number NL204153BM21-01, are priced at $2,550 per unit. The monochrome UXGA display, part number NL160120BM27-03, is priced at $1,500 per unit. Pricing and availability are subject to change.
