Sipex Corp. has introduced two high power, high efficiency, synchronous step-down controllers for 12V applications.

The SP6134 and SP6137 ICs reduce external component size by offering higher frequency operation of 600KHz and 900KHz, respectively. Similar to the SP6132, the devices are available in a 10-pin MSOP package and include all provisions for loop stability and soft-start.

Designed for use in graphics cards, telecom equipment, and other 12V distributed power systems, the devices utilize a PWM architecture that drives dual NFET switches with efficiencies as high as 94 percent. The products feature a programmable output voltage range down to 0.8V and maintain 1.5 percent accuracy over a wide range of line, load, and temperature conditions. Internal 2A gate drivers provide load current capability of up to 15A.

Available over the commercial 0C to 70C temperature range, the SP6134 and SP6137 are priced at $1.50 and $1.75, respectively. Samples and evaluation boards are also available to assist in the evaluation of the devices.
