RF Micro Devices Inc. (RFMD) has announced the availability of the RF2890 dual-band cellular/GPS LNA/mixer for CDMA and JCDMA applications.

Allowing handset engineers to achieve design goals and accelerate time-to-market, the product includes a three-gain state LNA gain (17.5dB gain control) with an integrated single gain state high IIP3 mixer (8.5dBm). An integrated optional LO prescaler allows flexible VCO selection.

The device is designed to exceed all TIA/EIA 98D sensitivity, intermodulation and single-tone requirements and offers a dedicated low current (15.5mA) GPS LNA/mixer with 32.5dB gain. The product's performance can be tailored according to application needs through off-chip bias current reference resistors for both LNA and mixer functions. It also includes a TX LO buffer amplifier.

Offered in a 4-by-4mm QFN package with full ESD protection on all pins, the RF2890 is priced at $2.45 in quantities of 10,000 units.
