Tanner EDA has released a new version of its L-Edit Pro Windows-based IC layout editor with new functionality and ease-of-use features.

According to Tanner, v11 of L-Edit Pro has a new feature called "online DRC" that enables users to define a set of rules that are checked continually throughout the design process and displays alerts when a rule is violated.

Tanner said the instant feedback allows users to immediately make corrections as it occur during the process, reducing the number of revisions and extra time required to make revisions at the end of the design process. In addition to DRC online, v11 also has new layout features such as base points, object snapping and full-screen cursor.

Tanner said the base-points feature allows users to specify reference points and perform editing operations such as object flip and pivot relative to the designated point.

The object snapping feature, according to Tanner, improves drawing accuracy and efficiency by allowing designers to "snap" to the vertex, mid-point, center, quadrant or pin of objects in a layout. The feature allows designers to align object edges more easily.

The full screen cursor has vertical and horizontal lines extending to the boundary of the layout window to further aid in object alignment.
