Siemens has officially opened its R&D Center at Singapore on January 6 with inaugural rites led by Lee Hsien Loong, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore. The center, which houses 1,200 employees, consolidates most of the company's operations in Singapore into a single location. The facility targets three main initiatives for the company: electronic assembly technologies, mobile phones and water technologies. An announcement on medical solutions was also made.

The new facility consolidates most of the company's operations under one roof "to achieve synergies and leverage on our broad spectrum of capabilities to serve our customers even better," said Dr. Heinrich von Pierer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens AG. "The new Siemens Center is a fitting symbol of our companys long and growing commitment to Singapore. It says very clearly: We are here to stay," he added.

Constructed on a land size of 17,400 square-meters with a gross floor area of 37,000 square-meters, the plant is capable of supporting research and development, assembly, warehousing and training facilities with offices, customer care centers and employee facilities.
