Renesas Technology Corp. has developed a prototype development platform optimized for a version of the Linux operating system (OS) aimed at CE (Consumer Electronics) products such as digital home appliances. This prototype development platform is the first result of the company's activities and it is working on the provision of a development environment for Renesas products compatible with CELF specifications.

CELF was established in July 2003 with the aim of enhancing and promoting the Linux OS for use in CE products. For this purpose, a number of issues have been identified concerning the use of Linux in CE products, and technological development has been undertaken in order to solve the technical problems involved.
