Renesas Technology Corp. has created a prototype development platform designed for use in CE products such as digital home appliances.

Compatible with the specifications proposed by CE Linux Forum (CELF), the platform is comprised of the company's RTS7751R2D development board, which incorporates a 32-bit RISC microcomputer SuperH Family SH-4 CPU core. The SH7751R also includes a memory management unit (MMU), floating-point processing unit (FPU), PCI controller and PCMCIA controller.

An SM501 manufactured by Silicon Motion Inc. is mounted on the development board and implements various functions with the SH7751R, including video overlay display, alpha blending, ZV port video input, an LCD/CRT display controller, and a USB host.

The CELF specification compatible Linux OS is based on Linux Source Tree code released by CELF, with patches developed for SH-4 architecture and provided to CELF by Lineo Solutions Inc.
