The CombiMatrix Group of Acacia Research Corp. will partner with Cyrano Sciences to develop chemical sensors that combine its microarray technology with Cyrano's electronic nose technology.

Acacia Research says CombiMatrix's microarrays incorporate thousands of independently addressable microelectrodes on a semiconductor chip. The technology has been used in genetic analysis, RNAi drug discovery, biodefense application and nanomaterials discovery.

Meanwhile, Cyrano Sciences' work has demonstrated the capabilities of its array-based nanocomposite sensor technology - electronic nose - to detect very low levels of chemicals.

"This collaboration merges two independent nanotechnologies that will have a broad impact in chemical detection," said Steven Sunshine, president and CEO of Cyrano.
