LG Electronics Ltd has chosen Mindspeed Technologies Inc.'s Miro communications convergence processor for use in its Starex-IS CDMA2000 wireless basestation controller. The Starex-IS basestation controller is designed to handle up to 4,000 channels of wireless voice incorporating Mindspeed's patented selectable-mode vocoder (SMV) technology for improved voice quality and bandwidth efficiency.

According to Mindspeed, the Miro M82610 combines DSP cores and a packet processing engine with industry-standard streaming packet interfaces to provide a high-density VoIP and voice-over-ATM system-on-a-chip.

"Mindspeed's high-performance Miro voice processor and carrier-class software enabled us to design a robust, compact system for rapidly growing CDMA2000 wireless networks worldwide," said J.P. Hong, senior research manager of the CDMA Network Division at LG Electronics.
