Avnet Inc., through its operating group Avnet Electronics Marketing, and Leopard Logic Inc. announced a distribution pact for Leopard Logic's Gladiator configurable logic device (CLD) in North America with future arrangements to distribute to other regions as well.

Leopard Logic recently released its Gladiator CLD, a fully hierarchical, point-to-point interconnect that combines FPGA's flexibility and ASIC's low cost and power consumption.

"The Gladiator CLD family is an excellent complement to Avnet Cilicon's portfolio of solutions," said Jeff Ittel, president of Avent Cilicon. "For the first time, our customers can utilize field programmable functionality within their ASIC designs." Ittel noted that he is impressed with the Leopard Logic management team's execution of their strategy, and said that they look forward to working with them.

"We are excited to partner with Avnet and make gladiator CLD available to their wide customer base. Avnet's world-class sales, applications engineering and design center resources allow us to provide the best customer support from the outset," explained Chris Phillips, president and CEO of Leopard Logic. He added that Avnet Cilicon is the best partner to capture a significant share of the $5 billion market opportunity for Gladiator CLD.

First in the Gladiator CLD family is CLD6400 running at a system speed of 500MHz, and offers 32 giga-multiply-accumulate operations per second DSP capability. It has 16 on-chip PLLs and DLLs to drive clocks and implement high-speed interfaces with 5W maximum power consumption. CLD6400 is manufactured in TSMC's 0.13?m CMOS process on 300mm wafers to deliver optimal performance at minimal cost.
