TI analog front-end suits motor control apps

Texas Instruments Inc. has introduced a complete analog front-end from its Burr-Brown product line which is designed for motor control applications.

The ADS7869 integrates three 12-bit, 1MSPS ADCs, including seven sample-and-hold (S/H) circuits and twelve fully differential input channels. This combination allows high throughput and simultaneous sampling for motor control applications, such as multi-axis positioning, motion control, and robotics.

The product also includes three fully differential inputs for phase current measurement with each input connected to a window comparator and a sign comparator. This allows correction of current distortion caused by dead-time, as well as user selectable level of overcurrent protection. For position sensor analysis, four sign comparators connected to four input channels and two 16-bit up/down counters are incorporated along with synchronous and asynchronous sampling to enable precision encoder measurement and position control.

Featuring a 12-bit system offset and gain adjustment for every channel, the ADS7869 has a 1LSB integral nonlinearity, 0.65LSB differential nonlinearity and -78dB distortion (10kHz). Packaged in a TQFP-100, it is priced at $14.60 in 1,000-piece quantities.
