IP access networking and service provider UTStarcom Inc. has signed a contract with China Netcom Group (CNC) valued at about $32 million to expand its IP-based PAS (Personal Access System) (iPAS) platform in nine cities in China's Henan province.

UTStarcoms PAS wireless network solutions enable a rapid network expansion and an easy migration from fixed to wireless networks, enabling service providers to offer wireless voice and data services within a city or community.

"Local operators in China understand the long-term benefits of PAS and are eager to enhance their networks to provide greater platform efficiency for present subscribers, as well as to give even more incentive to future PAS users," said Simon Le, VP of sales for UTStarcom China. "This is the largest of the province's expansion projects, solidifying that PAS continues to be a major investment opportunity in the Henan province and throughout the rest of China," Le added.
