LG Electronics Ltd has signed an agreement for the supply of Esmertec's Jbed Java Virtual Machine (JVM) solution for mobile multimedia phones and embedded devices. In the agreement, Esmertec will deliver Jbed CLDC with MIDP2.0 for the LG Electronics' basic phone model.

According to Esmertec, its Jbed CLDC with FastBCC compiler technology is a JVM solution specifically designed for resource-constrained devices, such as mobile phones with limited CPU power and small memory size. FastBCC utilizes compilation techniques that ensure efficient resource management within small footprints.

"The decision to choose Esmertec as our Java technology provider was based on their high performance J2ME solutions and services," said Kang H.J., V.P. of UMTS Handset Lab, LG Electronics. "Their Jbed product will enable us to deliver one of the most advanced and comprehensive Java enabled phones to the market, which in turn will allow LGE's users to benefit from thousands of wireless Java applications," H.J. added.
