ITIS sees growth in optoelectronic production this year

Industry Technology Intelligence Services (ITIS) forecasts that Taiwan's production value for the optoelectronic industry this year will reach over NT$1 trillion ($30.08 billion at NT$33.24: 1), a 28.9 percent increase from 2003. The company reports that production value for the optoelectronic industry totaled NT$776.20 billion ($23.35 billion) last year, up by 29 percent from 2002.

ITIS Director Champion Wang, said, "The projected production value for optoelectronic displays for 2004 is anticipated to grow by 50.3 percent over last year, and reach NT$471.17 billion ($14.17 billion). The number two will be optoelectronic components, including super-bright blue and white-lighting LEDs, with a projected growth of 24.1 percent and NT$44.41 billion ($1.33 billion) production value. Optoelectronic storage devices will rank number three with a growth rate of 16.5 percent for 2004 over 2003 and an expected production value of NT$32.69 billion ($98.34 million)."

"Both optoelectronic input devices and optoelectronic communications will rank as number four with a growth rate of 9.5 percent, respectively. The estimated production value for optoelectronic input devices for 2004 is NT$123,442 million ($3713.65 million) and for optoelectronic communications is NT$8,956 million ($269.43 million)," added Nang.

Meanwhile, ITIS estimates that the production value for optoelectronic output devices will amount to NT$25,333 million ($762.12 million) and decrease by 1.1 percent this year.
