Fairchild Semiconductor has launched a highly integrated, triple video driver that is selectable for High Definition (HD) or Standard Definition (SD) signal filtering.

The FMS6418A is used to remove high frequency noise prior to digitizing the signal or to remove artifacts introduced during D/A conversion in the encoder for either RGB or YUV signals. Suitable for advanced video applications, including HDTV monitors, cable and satellite STBs, DVD players, Personal Video Recorders (PVRs), Video on Demand (VoD) and A/V receivers, the device has triple 6th order filters with selectable 30MHz (HD) or 8MHz (SD) frequencies. It also offers -38dB of stop band rejection at 74.25MHz for HD and -55dB at 27MHz for SD applications.

The FMS6418A combines a 2:1 multiplexer on each filter channel, with filtering and output drive amplification on all three channels. All channels provide 6dB gain, accept 1V ground referenced inputs, and drive AC coupled loads.

Housed in a 16-pin SOIC package, the IC is priced at 84 cents for 1,000-unit quantities. Demo boards are also available to illustrate the product's full performance capabilities. The lead-free product meets or exceeds the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B and is compliant with the European Union requirements, which will take effect in 2005. Delivery is 8 weeks for more than 100,000 quantities.
