Veraz Networks Inc. has opened its India center in the western Indian city of Pune to tap the fast-growing market in this country for high-quality telephony services. Veraz, funded by ECI Telecom and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers among others, is a provider of carrier-grade next-generation telephony solutions.

"There are many carriers in India that are rapidly increasing service throughout the country as well as pioneering broadband access and multimedia services. We see this as a great opportunity for Veraz by leveraging the rich talent here [India] to help us generate new next generation services, which will address the needs of the Indian and global markets," said Tal Simchony, CEO, Veraz.

Veraz is one of the few vendors with a carrier-class packet telephony solution certified by the Indian government's Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC). The solution includes the I-Gate 4000 media gateway family leveraging Veraz's in-house digital signal processing technology.

"The center has staff already in place, which will triple to 30 people in the next few months," said Vijay Nadkarni, VP of engineering and professional services at Veraz.
