The Tainan Science-based Industrial Park (TSIP) Administration has revealed that the projected revenue for the park this year is NT$250 billion ($7.5 billion at NT$33.27:$1), up by 61 percent from 2003. Director Chien Tai said, "We hope to attract about 30 companies to the park this year."

According to Tai, the park's revenue totaled NT$155.30 billion ($4.67 billion) last year, a 50.63 percent increase from 2002. Of the three major industries in the park, optoelectronics ranked number one in sales, ahead of semiconductor and telecommunications. Optoelectronics revenues reached NT$89.71 billion ($2.69 billion), accounting for 57.77 percent of the total sales and marking a 71.43 percent rise from 2002.

Of the four major industries that comprise optoelectronics, lithium batteries ranked first with a 269.52 percent growth rate from 2002, followed by solar cell batteries with 150.12 percent and flat panels with 61.02 percent. Number four was optoelectronics materials and components with a 25.61 percent increase from 2002.

On the other hand, sales from the park's telecommunications segment totaled NT$660 million ($19.84 million) last year, a 77.49 percent jump from 2002. The WLAN group registered the highest growth rate of 76.39 percent year-on-year.

Sales from the park's semiconductor sector, meanwhile, reached NT$60.89 billion ($1.83 billion) last year, a 25.46 percent improvement from 2002. The figure accounted for 39.21 percent of the park's total revenue in 2003.
