The new system LSI from Matsushita Electric Ind. Co. Ltd will enable television manufacturers to improve both cost and performance competitiveness of their television lines.

The Algista 8 (Advanced LSI of Global & Intelligent Solutions for Television Application) series is claimed by the company as the industry's first LSI embedded with the features needed to meet the PAL, SECAM, and NTSC formats on a single chip.

Available in four types, the device has a pin-compatible feature that will require only one chassis design for all markets worldwide, reducing external components to approximately half of what was used in Panasonic's previous television chassis.

Matsushita explained that a conventional chassis for analog televisions consists of two or more chips such as the microprocessor and television signal processor.

Reduces picture adjustment process

The LSI's highly efficient digital signal processing technology eliminates circuit fluctuation, reducing the picture adjustment process by 40 percent compared to the conventional process. Meanwhile, the embedding microprocessor control and picture processing technology enables firmware processing that facilitates flexible support for the various picture-quality settings favored in different regions. Firmware processing also responds to the different equipment used for picture adjustment, which may vary depending on the factory manufacturing the TV set.

The company's circuit configuration technology integrates the digital signal processing circuit and the microprocessor, embedding functions to receive Delete broadcasts in the European and Asian regions, and broadcasts with closed-captions in the North American region.
