Optical component foundry and supplier Oplink Communications Inc. acquired privately held Accumux Technologies Inc. for an undisclosed sum, adding tunable dispersion compensation technology and modules to its photonic hardware offerings.

TDCM technology developed by startup Accumux allows for tunability, multichannel compensation in the entire C-band, independent slope correction, zero nonlinearity, low ripples in insertion loss and group delay, low polarization dependent loss and low polarization mode dispersion.

Oplink has been strengthening its product lineup, as well as its integrated photonic-electronic design and manufacturing services capabilities both at its San Jose facilities and in Zhuhai, China.

Last October, it acquired optical module manufacturer RedClover Networks, giving it access to a range of optical modules for 10- and 40Gbps applications. The company's 10Gbps transponder is capable of delivering a 240km reach over SMF-28 fiber without the use of dispersion compensating filters.

"With our integrated passive and active hybrid design service and full service offshore manufacturing capabilities, Oplink offers the most competitive and comprehensive Photonic Foundry Solutions in the industry," said Joe Liu, president and CEO of Oplink. "We will continue to strengthen our business model and enhance our Photonic Foundry leadership position through the acquisitions of leading complementary transmission technologies."
