The SG-BGA-7023 and SG-BGA-7025 sockets from Ironwood Electronics allow ICs such as Analog Devices' AD6535 and Siliconware's 80LD to be used in sockets and operate without compromising performance in high-speed computing and communication applications.

Ironwood said that the 10GHz bandwidth sockets support very dense BGA devices utilizing a high performance conductive Elastomer contactor, and have a precision design, which guides the IC to the exact position for connection of each ball and uses an aluminum heatsink screw to provide compressive force. Contact resistance is normally 10 milliohms.

The AD6535 from Analog Devices is housed in a 9mm BGA package with 0.5mm pitch and 16 x 16 arrays with up to 256 balls, while Siliconware's 7mm 80LD features a 0.65mm pitch and 9 x 9 array with 81 balls.

Mechanically mounted to target PCBs, the patented ZIF sockets are 7.5mm high and are 2.5mm per side larger than the actual IC packages. The SG-BGA-7023 can provide socketing for any 7mm body size BGA IC with 0.5mm or 0.65mm pitch, and the SG-BGA-7025 provides socketing for any 9mm body size BGA with the same pitches.

Pricing for the SG-BGA-7023 is $253 and the SG-BGA-7025 is available for $293.25 each in quantities of 100.
