Artesyn Technologies Inc. has released the latest addition to its Typhoon family of dc-dc converters.
The SMT12F, an ultra-compact 12A non-isolated point-of-load dc-dc converter, is capable of handling fast load transients. It features a footprint of 1.32-by-1.60cm and achieves a power density figure in excess of 389W/inch?. The device also has an installed height of 0.79cm, which minimizes airflow disruption and makes it suitable for both forced air and convection-cooled environments.
Intended for use in communications applications such as enterprise routers, storage switches and wireless basestations, the converter is based around a highly advanced monolithic silicon controller. It provides a typical conversion efficiency of 95 percent and has an input voltage range of 3V to 5.5V. Output voltage trim range is between 0.9V and 3.3V, which is set via a single resistor.
"This new converter represents a turnkey solution for POL power where most competing options on the market today - including discrete implementations and multichip components - still require the addition of numerous input and output capacitors, together with an output inductor," Todd Hendrix, VP of marketing, said. "The highly integrated nature of the SMT12F module means that it occupies less than 20 percent of the board space that may be demanded by alternative solutions."
The SMT12F only needs the addition of a small number of output capacitors to provide a complete full-specification, high efficiency POL power solution with transient response capabilities that extend to 300A/?s. It accommodates a wide operational temperature range of -40C to 85C.
Tape-and-reel options will be available for customers wishing to use standard placement automation. In OEM quantities of 1000, unit prices are $16.13. |
