Ericsson has introduced its CDMA2000 1X radio basestation (RBS) 1143 and tower mount amplifier (TMA) that are both part of the recently launched Expander offering, which is designed to improve coverage and offer scalable capacity while providing cost-effective solutions for high growth markets.

According to Egil Gronstad, VP of product line management, "Ericsson's CDMA2000 product portfolio improves our customers' profitability by reducing costs throughout the network lifecycle, from initial capital purchase through installation, maintenance and operation."

Built on the company's true3G connectivity packet platform, the RBS 1143 is targeted for use in low-capacity applications where a single sector is ideal for coverage. Eliminating the need for traditional cell site enclosures, the device enables fast, flexible, and economical implementation of cell sites in new locations.

The dual-duplex TMA is designed for reliability, and can be used with all of Ericsson's CDMA2000 RBS products. Combined with the company's MCPA, it enhances overall network performance and extends coverage by improving reverse link sensitivity. Compact and lightweight, the device provides extended coverage and mobile talk-time.
