GaAs IC supplier Anadigics Inc. has exhibited its latest 4-band power amplifiers (PA) designed for next-generation GSM/GPRS handsets, as well as CDMA power amplifiers used in cellphones, PCS and 3G handsets, during this year's IIC China. The company expects to get a bigger share of the mobile phone power amplifier market in China as a result of the competitive prices it offers to customers.

Anadigics claims its AWT6108 and AWT6146 PA modules employ advanced InGaP HBT technology, support dual/tri/quad band applications, and feature 35dBm output power at 3.5V for GSM, 33dBm DCS/PCS for DCS/PSC, and small footprint, 7-by-10-by-1.4mm and 7-by-7-by-1.3mm respectively, as well as a power control that range more than 50dB.

The company also featured their CDMA and PCS CDMA power products, such as AWT6106, AWT6111, AWT6112, AWT6113, AWT6130, and AWT6131 in the exhibition. In particular, the AWT6106 is designed for multi-mode, multi-frequency wireless handset applications based on 2.5G CDMA CS, and has a footprint of only 4-by-4-by-1.4mm. The AWT6131 is designed for PCS CDMA, dual-band CDMA and tri-mode CDMA handsets. It offers a solution for RF designers in order to overcome their difficulty in output power margin which results from extra power consumption of post-PA in E911tri-mode handset design (which is GPS-enabled).

Currently, Anadigics products are distributed to the China market via Step Electronics (China). Their competitive prices have attracted many Chinese handset makers that are focusing on middle and low-end products. To further cut down the production costs and enable to provide affordable products to its customers, the company said it will open an IC package plant in Suzhao, Jiangsu in 2004.
