SK Telecom, Verizon Wireless form EV-DO service deal

SK Telecom has formed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with CDMA firm Verizon Wireless to promote EV-DO service.

The MoU will enable the companies to cooperate in the optimization of the CDMA 1x EV-DO, Smart phone research, data roaming service, international standardization of platform and application, video on demand (VOD), coloring service and picture phone.

Since its announcement, Verizon Wireless has been benchmarking CDMA technologies, and has been visiting SK Telecom several times.

Meanwhile, SK Telecom announced that they have supported the coloring system (with capacity of 0.5 million subscribers, $1.51 million) to Smart Communications Inc. in Dec. 2003, and decided to support additional systems to 1.5 million subscribers, amounting to $3 million.
