Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd displayed its portable phone muscle into the European market at the recent CeBIT display meet with offerings such as world phones, EDGE phones, and megapixel camera phones.

The company is confident that it will utilize the British design and communications laboratory to enhance and design localized handy phones to the market, and will try to occupy the solution and "killer app" segments through local laboratories to commercialize the 3G service, which is progressing now in some nations, including England, Sweden, and Italy.

In addition, the company believes that multimedia phones are reaching its peak all over the world. Keeping a close relationship with European fabless suppliers, including Vodafone, T-Mobile, and Deutsche Telekom, Samsung is scheduled to release 15 types of portable units that is more than what was released in Europe last year. The company plans to sell over 2 billion units in the European market.

"Mutimedia is available in every mobile phone," said Ki Tae Lee, president of Samsung Electronics in a social gathering in Hannover, Germany, "Camera, camcoder, MP3, TV receiver, satellite digital broadcasting and GPS are the products of mixed fusion which would occupy the market," Lee added.

As a marketing strategy, Samsung said they will increase their mobile phone market share to 8 percent to 9 percent in Europe with the Olympics marketing.

Samsung Electronics will apply British design and utilize the communications laboratory to enhance the local portable phone designs in the market. Mark Delaney and several design engineers participated in making the handy phone that won the design prize. They will utilize local laboratories as well as killer apps to further push the commenrcialization of the 3G service, which is now gaining a foothold in England, Sweden, and Italy.

Samsung Electronics shipped over 10 million units of the SGH-T100 model since its release on February 2002. After that, the company hit it big when they released and shipped the Antenna Phone in October 2003. With 2.5 million units sold already, they expect to sell a total of over 5 millions units.
