Touchscreen-panel makers are boosting their capacities, spurred by a strong demand from the household-appliance sector. Mainland China has over 10 makers that have large production of touchscreen panels. The industry is also boosted by demand from PDA, POS, and ATM-machine applications.

"Increasingly, makers of microwave ovens, dishwashers and disinfector chambers are adopting digital resistive touchscreen panels in their products. We're seeing a fruitful year in 2004," announced Wu Xiaohua, sales manager of Shenzhen Beitai Display Technology Co. Ltd.

Four-wire resistive panels dominate mainland production. Its applications are centered on PDA, handhold digital devices, OA, and medical equipment.

"So far, four-wire panels are able to satisfy almost all the existing applications, and users are quite accustomed to them," Wu added.

Quotes for four-wire panels, however, are expected to fall due to a massive surge in output. Prices of touchscreen panels have been fluctuating constantly.
