Numerous market forecasters have already released reports that the market for digital devices and electronic consumer products will rapidly increase in the coming years. As a response, Matsushita Electric Ind. Co. Ltd has introduced its 1GB SD Memory Card with an expected market price of about 499 Euros in Germany and $499.99 in North America.

The semiconductor memory card was developed based on four product concepts: large memory capacity, high-speed data transfer rate, postage stamp-size compactness, and copyright protection.

With a 10MBps data transfer rate, the 1GB memory device has the capacity to store about 1,300 still images at 3 megapixel (standard mode) or about 400 still images at 5 megapixel (fine-mode), about 9h of MPEG4 video images (normal mode) or about 40 minutes of MPEG2 video images (normal mode), or about 22h of music.

According to the company, their proprietary high-density packaging technology has allowed mounting of 8 1Gb NAND flash memory chips, which has realized the large capacity and high speed of the product.
