Nitronex Corp., a privately-held manufacturer of gallium nitride-based RF power transistors, said Friday (April 9, 2004) it has completed a $6 million round of additional funding.

Funds came from existing investors. In addition, the company announced that Charles Shalvoy has joined the company as executive chairman and acting CEO.

The funds are to be used to accelerate product development and sales and marketing activities. To date, Nitronex has raised $50 million in venture funding.

Shalvoy was most recently president and CEO of Conductus Inc., a manufacturer of superconducting products for wireless networks.

"We believe our GaN on silicon technology can provide significant performance and cost advantages in a number of markets, and we expect to introduce our first power transistor products for the wireless market later this year," said Shalvoy.
