Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has disclosed that its 110C-rated family of optocouplers is the first devices in standard plastic packaging to achieve an operating temperature range from -55C up to 110C.

The optocouplers are designed to provide safe, optical connections between circuits in a wide range of systems, from ac adapters, power supplies, programmable logic controllers, and industrial automation to game consoles and PCs.

Used for ac adapters, the optocouplers' higher temperature specifications allow the construction of smaller, lighter gear by eliminating the need to maintain a lower temperature on the optocoupler. According to the company, the devices provide designers with a better-performing alternative to 85C-rated devices and a lower-cost alternative to ceramic optocouplers.

The products also provide a broad range of CTR values. The six package options (DIP-4, SOP-4 miniflat with 100mil lead pitch, DIP-6, DIP-8, SOIC-8 and DIP-16) offer designers both flexibility and space savings. Isolation test voltages are specified at values up to 5,300Vrms, and the collector-emitter voltage is 70V for most units.

Samples and production quantities of the SFH1617A, TCET111x, SFH1690, CNY117, CNY117F, 6N1135/6, ILD1615, IL120xAT, ILD12xxT, and ILQ1615 optocouplers are available with lead times of five to eight weeks for larger orders.
