Tyco connector eyes single-pole power apps

Tyco Electronics has released three new connector products for single-pole power applications.

Sharing a common, genderless robust housing design and durable contact system, the AMP Power Series 15, 30, and 45 connectors are single-pole connectors with vertical and horizontal stacking capability. According to Tyco, vertical or horizontal stacking is accomplished by locking members that slide into place. Separate contacts for 15-, 30- or 45A are employed to accommodate an appropriate power rating.

The devices use an impact resistant, color-coded, UL 94V-0 polycarbonate housing. Colors include blue, black, white, green, red, yellow, orange and gray, while contacts are silver plated copper offering low resistance and exceptional conductivity. Designers can select from individual cold-headed contacts or a contact kitted with housing.

Engineered for use in power supplies, material handling equipment, electric vehicles, communications equipment, electric wheelchairs and office furniture partitions, the connectors achieve a maximum current rating with the 45A contact and 10 AWG wire. All contacts are rated for 600V dc-dc, and are suitable for up to 10,000 mating cycles. The company said that the mating action minimizes arcing by scraping corrosion from mating surfaces after each mating cycle.
