EarthLCD, a wholly owned subsidiary of Earth Computer Technologies Inc. has released a 2.7-inch, 240 x 160 small form factor TFT color LCD display, and ezLCD-001-EDK evaluation kit. The display is available as a complete assembly with a built-in Earth LCD controller card mounted onto an evaluation board for easy interfacing to the LCD controller through integrated USB and serial connectivity.

Targeting OEM customers, the company has also launched a lower priced ezLCD-001 display module that excludes the evaluation board. Incorporating a 240 x 160 2.7-inch serial TFT color graphic LCD module with multifont text layer, and RS232 and USB interfaces, the new display module offers a default serial data rate of 115.2Kbauds that is user changeable to any standard speeds between 2,400 and 115.2Kbauds.

In addition, the ezLCD-001 includes SPI and I2C serial interfaces and 20 discrete I/O, and can be powered by any USB port or external power supply. An internal dc-dc converter accounts for a wide supply voltage range of 3Vdc to 7Vdc.

The ezLCD-001 is driven by an extensive set of graphic, text and system instructions including DOWNLOAD_BITMAP, SET_COLOR, SELECT_FONT, PRINT, LINE, CIRCLE, POINT, and SET_BAUDRATE. The firmware may be updated through the embedded RS232 interface.

Detailed specifications and online ordering is available from the company's website. The retail price of the ezLCD-001-EDK evaluation kit is $199.
