BYD Co. Ltd has acquired the China Origin mark from the China Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (CIQ) for its mobile phone batteries.

With mainland China's entry to the World Trade Organization (WTO), it would be very helpful for qualified export manufacturers to obtain the China Origin mark. This would give their export products a more powerful protection from the foreign governments, says Xu Minghe, section chief of CIQ Shenzhen.

According to the WTO rules, our government has the responsibility to protect imported products that bear an origin mark. Thus, the governments of other WTO members also have the same obligation, adds Xu.

Xu notes that CIQ observes a strict certification procedure which verifies the qualifications of the applicant's products. He notes that the China Origin mark is not only applied to local traditional export industries but also to local enterprises in hi-tech industries.

BYD is acknowledged as the largest manufacturer of rechargeable batteries in mainland China. The company currently turns out around 3,000,000 units of Li-ion, Ni-Cd and Ni-Mh batteries daily.
