Agere Systems announced Tuesday, May 4, 2004 that it will port Data Connections Ltd software protocol stacks to its network processors in an effort to provide an integrated hardware/software solution to developers multi-service networking equipment.

Under the partnership, Agere will integrate its functional application programming interface (FPI) software with a range of DCL's protocol software, which includes software for multi-protocol label switching (MPLS), ATM, the border gateway protocol (BGP), and open shortest path first (OSPF) protocol.

In the first phase of the collaboration, Agere will validate its ATM-based Festino product with DCL's ATM protocol software. DCL's ATM software supports the user-to-network interface (UNI), private network-to-network interface (PNNI), integrated local management interface (ILMI), and IP-over-ATM (IPoA).
