The DS1090 EconOscillator from Dallas Semiconductor is claimed by the company as the industry's only spread-spectrum resistor-programmable oscillator.

Offering output frequencies between 125kHz and 8MHz with 3V to 5.5V single-supply operation, the device reduces system-level electromagnetic interference (EMI) by dithering the master oscillator frequency to reduce peak spectral energy at the fundamental and harmonic clock frequencies.

Through the use of control pins, the user can choose from among dither percentages of 0, 2, 4 and 8 percent, and dither rates of fMOSC/512, 1024, 2048, and 4096.

Designed as an external clock for switched-mode power supplies, the DS1090 is packaged in an 8-pin microSOP, and operates over the extended temperature range of -40C to 85C. Prices start at 68 cents.
