Shindengen regulator serves handheld environments

Shindengen America's MD5001 is a step-down regulator designed for tight and demanding thermal environments, i.e., where there's insufficient space to fit a cooling fan. It's particularly suited to applications where the designer requires a high-efficiency 1.8V, 1A regulator for a battery operated handheld device.

The MD5001 contains a control IC and MOSFET output stage in an SOP-8 package, and delivers at least 1A at 0.8V to 12V from a 4.5V to 14V input. It features remote on/off control, overcurrent protection, built-in thermal protection and an efficiency of 90 percent.

The MD5001 is priced at 97 cents each in OEM quantities.
