Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) has launched two low-power mobile processors designed to offer mobility to thin and light notebooks.

As part of the Athlon 64 processor family, the Athlon 64 processor models 2800+ and 2700+ offer a 32-bit computing experience with a seamless transition to 64-bit applications. The mobile processors also provide an Enhanced Virus Protection security feature, to be enabled by the upcoming Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.

"AMD was the first to combine high-performance 32-bit computing with a 64-bit turbocharger in your backpack and on your desk," according to Marty Seyer, VP and GM of Microprocessor Business Unit for AMD. "Now, thinner and lighter notebooks can be fueled with this same cutting-edge performance plus security enhancements to be enabled by the upcoming Windows XP SP2."

Available worldwide for thin and light mobile PCs, the 2800+ and 2700+ models are priced at $241 and $209, respectively, for 1,000-unit quantities.
