Yu Fo Electronic Corp. increased the monthly capacity of its factory in Hueizhou, mainland China from 60,000 square feet to 1 million square-feet this quarter. "We are expanding because the demand for 4- and 6-layer rigid PCBs designed for use in motherboards, W LANs and servos from our mainland customers has been increasing since late last year," says Frank Hsu, chief financial officer and spokesperson.

This year, the sales turnover from the company's Hueizhou plant will double to NT$900 million ($26.82 million at NT$33.56:$1), says Hsu. However, the projected turnover from its Taiwan plant this year will decrease by about 10 percent from last year's figure. "Our Taiwan customers have already shifted their operations to mainland China and the demand for PCBs from the local market has been decreasing each year," he explains.

Yu Fo Electronic is not planning to expand its Taiwan plant. The plant's production capacity for high-end and value-added 6- to 8-layer PCBs designed for use in PDAs and telecommunications products will be maintained at 500,000 square feet a month.
