Fabless chip company Sirific Wireless Corp., which specializes in the development of multistandard, multiband RF transceivers for GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA and WLAN, has closed its $17 million oversubscribed Series B financing round.

Intel's Communications Fund made an initial strategic investment, and the round was led by Boston based TD Capital Ventures.

Current investors, including Agilent Technologies, Celtic House, BDC Venture Capital and GrowthWorks WV Funds, also increased their investment in Sirific.

Sirific is currently demonstrating a single-chip CMOS quad-band EDGE RF transceiver for mobile handsets, laptops and PDAs to alpha customers. It claims this is the first such part at this stage of development. The company's patented Virtual LO technology allows Sirific's EDGE transceiver to exhibit high levels of performance and integration in standard CMOS. The direct modulation transmit architecture allows for full EDGE and WLAN support now with a seamless path to WCDMA on a single chip.

The first products are expected to be in production at the end of 2004.
