Rosy forecast for China's IC industry

China's IC industry is on the fast lane to growth, according to China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA) and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Electronics and Information Industry Sub-Council (CCPIT-ECC).

The industry is growing rapidly and is expected to rake in more than Rmb100 billion ($12.08 at Rmb8.28:$1) during the 10th five-year plan. By 2005, its total output will have reached 20 billion pieces with sales hitting Rmb60 to Rmb80 billion ($7.25 billion to $9.66 billion).

In 2003, the local IC industry turned out 12.4 billion units, a 29 percent year-on-year increase. Sales grew 20 percent year-on-year to Rmb32 billion ($3.86 billion).
