Micrel LDO regulator provide ultra-low dropout, high PSRR

A micropower, ultra-low dropout (LDO) regulator for applications in portable electronic devices such as cellular phone RF, was announced by Micrel Semiconductor. The new device is the latest addition to Micrel's line of LDO regulators featuring ?Cap capability, which allows the use of either ceramic or tantalum output capacitors.

Fabricated in CMOS technology, the MIC5305 features PSRR of over 85dB at 1kHz and ground current of <90?A at full load of 150mA. It has a low dropout of 60mV typical at 150mA, allowing for longer battery life in portable applications.

"The MIC5305 is the world's highest performing 150mA LDO regulator," said Steve Knoth, LDO product marketing manager. "Its ultra-low dropout, high PSRR and low ground current, coupled with low noise and fast turn-on time, make it ideal for demanding portable applications such as cellular phone RF."

Featuring a turn-on time of 30?s, the MIC5305 regulator features high line and load regulation, and thermal shutdown and current limit protection. It is offered in a miniature 2-by-2mm MLF package, as well as in the Thin SOT-23-5 package for applications not as thermally demanding. Micrel said that when compared to a Thin SOT-23, the 2-by-2mm MLF requires 55 percent less footprint and offers three times improvement in thermal resistance.

In 1,000-piece orders, pricing for the MIC5305 in MLF and Thin SOT-23-5 packaging starts at 74 cents and 66 cents, respectively.
