BiTMICRO Networks has formed a three-way technology partnership with Nevada-based NanoSignal Corp. and systems integrator Storm Company to develop next-generation image processing technologies for the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) market.

"Slices" - an image processing software that manipulates raw data matrices obtained through the MRI scanning process - is being incorporated into an E-Disk enabled hardware console, currently under development by Storm. When completed, NanoSignal intends to market this console as an add-on feature to enhance the performance of MRI systems worldwide, including those manufactured by General Electric, Hitachi and Siemens, among others.

The alliance is currently conducting beta tests using the E-Disk flash unit as main storage component. Initial results produced MRI that boast up to 10 times more clarity and resolution than conventional tools.

"Nanosignal's objective is to bring to market the most innovative solution that will speed up patient scan time and provide clearer MRI images than conventional MRI equipment. After evaluating various alternatives, we have concluded that the E-Disk drive is the best storage platform for our software. Storm Company's expertise will ensure that the capabilities of E-Disk and Slices are properly optimized," says Scott A. Ervin, CEO of NanoSignal.

Rudy Bruce, president of BiTMICRO Networks, further adds, "Our company is creating a new era in noninvasive medical diagnostic technology by bringing E-Disk into the health care industry."
